Madiba - South Africa Tour


1st Day New York - Depart New York J. F. Kennedy Airport or Miami International in the evening aboard your South African Airways jet flight to the African Continent. Enjoy dinner and breakfast on board

2nd Day Cape Town - On arrival in Cape Town you will be met by your tour guide and transferred to the BREAKWATER LODGE. The remainder of the day is at leisure.

3rd Day Cape Town - A short walk from the hotel to the harbor to board a boat for a cruise to the famous Robben Island, where there will be an orientation tour. Places of interest are the Lighthouse, the Leper Cemetery, the Rectory, the Anglican Church, the Stone quarry, the Residency, the Primary School and the Church of the Male Lepers. The tour will also take us through the prison where President Nelson Mandela was incarcerated for many years and will allow you to enter his cell. Cruise back to Cape Town harbor and in the afternoon enjoy a half day tour of the city starting at the lower cableway station where we take a cable car to tha summit of Table Mountain (weather permitting). From here we have spectacular views of the city, harbor and Robben Island. We then descend the mountain and embark on an orientation tour of the city, including the Malay Quarter. From here we make our way to Cape Town's famous Victoria and Alfred Waterfront for another tour before returning to the hotel.

4th Day Cape Town - Leave in the morning for a full day tour of the Cape Peninsula. We make our way through Sea Point and along the Atlantic Seaboard, through Camps Bay and Llandudno, to Hout Bay. From here we travel over the famous Chapman's Peak Drive, to the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve. Visit Cape Point, where tha Indian and Atlantic Oceans are said to meet. We than exit the park and make our way to Miller's Point where we enjoy lunch at the Black Marlin Restaurant. After lunch continue to Boulders Beach where we visit a colony of Jackass Penguins in their natural surroundings. We then continue via Muizenburg, to the Constantia region where we visit Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens. Kirstenbosch was established as a centre for the study and preservation of the indigenous flora of Southern Africa. Return to your hotel in the late afternoon.

5th Day Cape Town/Durban - Transfer in the morning to Cape Town Airport for your flight to Durban where you will be met and transferred to your hotel. Later enjoy a tour of the city driving along the Marine Parade passing Seaworld and Addington Hospital, the Harbor area and Victoria Embankment. See the DaGama Clock and Albert Park before returning to the HOLIDAY INN GARDEN COURT NORTH BEACH.

6th Day Durban - This morning embark on a full day Zulu Cultural Experience. Leave Durban and travel northwards through sugar cane fields to Zululand. At Gingindlovu we proceed west to Eshowe and continue to Shakaland, the film set for the TV serial "Shaka Zulu". Here we encounter the traditional way of life of the proud Zulu Nation, energetic Zulu dancing and a typical Zulu meal in the open air dining room, overlooking Goedetrou Dam. Return to Durban in the late afternoon.

7th Day Durban/Johannesburg - Morning at leisure. In the afternoon transfer to the airport for the flight to Johannesburg and on arrival transfer to the HOLIDAY INN GARDEN COURT.

8th Day Johannesburg - This morning depart on a tour of Pretoria, South Africa's administrative capital. Visit historic sights such as The Union Buildings, Kruger House and the Voortrekker Monument. Then continue to Lesedi Cultural Village which is situated outside Johannesburg. Upon arrival you will receive a traditional welcome, after which members of the traditional families will lead the way to the reception for a welcome drink and an overview of Lesedi Cultural Village. This is followed by a guided cultural walkabout which includes two of the four cultural homesteads We will then be escorted by the family to the lunch venue where the families share with us their traditional song and dance. Lunch is then served and there time to shop in the craft market prior to departure.

9th Day Johannesburg - Leave your hotel this morning for a half day tour. Drive to Soweto, a sprawling metropolis of more than 3.5 million people, on the outskirts of Johannesburg. A place that is synonymous with South Africa's turbulent past and its hope for the future. Soweto is a multi-lingual, multi-cultural composite of South Africa today. Peek into the past ? the hostels, Freedom Square, the struggle for liberty. Tread the paths to greatness taken by Nelson Mandela and Walter Sisulu. Stand on the only road in the world which carries the honor of two recipients of the Nobel Peace Prize. This afternoon a cultural tour includes a visit to the Nelson Mandela "Madiba Freedom Museum", a visit to the regional office of the ANC, the Museum Africa and an African Herbalist Shop.

10th Day Johannesburg/Sun City -Drive by motorcoach to Sun City and spend a leisurely day at the SUN CITY HOTEL . Sun City boasts the second largest casino in the world outside the United States. International artists have often filled the massive "Superbowl" entertainment centre to capacity. It is known also for Waterworld and the Gary Player golf course, where the Million Dollar Golf Classic is played.

11th Day Sun City - A free day to enjoy the facilities at Sun City -At Waterworld you can enjoy just about any watersport imaginable. The more adventurous can soar high over this incredible man made lake on a parasail, or skim across the water on a boardsail, watersnake, jetski, wetbike or on waterskis. For those who simply want to enjoy the scenery, a quiet trip across the lake in a sailboat or pedalo provides ample time to admire the lush, yet rugged beauty of the surrounding hills. Experience the excitement of "The Valley af the Waves" as you step out of the adrenalin rush of the Entertainment Centre. Occasionally, forces unleashed deep in the earth explode out of the Temple of Creation and you can hear lava hissing and bubbling as it flows beneath the Bridge of Time.

12th Day Sun City/Johannesburg/New York -Transfer by road to Johannesburg Airport for your return flight to the United States arriving into Miami or New York in the early evening.
